Finally got back to Fontwell to see a glorious new grandstand and weather to match! After over two months away it was great to be back. There was a nice amount of peoplpe on the raceday tour to talk about FormChecker, HotShots and Gargantuan and then I have to immensely thank Chris Copsey for giving his place up on the Tipping Forum as there had been a mix up. Therefore, I did the Forum with Tommo and a great commentator in Alan Howes. During the Forum highlighted most of the selections on FormChecker but did mention Ashmolian as a HotShot and Morenito in one of the chases in addition - I'd been looking at the Morenito race when at the tack and preferred him in the end (sorry for those who were not there and only had the FormChecker Tip Sheet as he did won at 10/1!!).
It was nice to see Penyfan Dawn courageously battle on once headed in the first after giving 8lbs to the eventual winner Brett Vale. Shinnecock Bay hit the odd fence going round in the second and clouted the last so was booked for second place behind Courella in the second. Finally hit a winner in Corso Palladio who ran out a ready winner in the third (keep an eye on this one as it was quite impressive) with the game Ashmolian grabbing third under Gemma Gracey-Davison. A brilliant 1-2-3 in the 655 saw Kijivu lead from the front and never get headed (finally it wins after many times being highlighted by FormChecer) - you could just sense it was going to win from the start as it was confidently written. Rock Me got second with Havenstone battling on for third. In the 730 I had no idea why Lords Bridge was so short afgter falling and unseating the last two times over regulation fences. Well, he hit a few going round and eas eventually pulled up after getting further and further behind at the start of the final circuit. It was nice to see Morenito spring back to some form as this is his distance and FormChecker got the second in Winning Show anyway so a nice 10/1 winner with an 8/1 placed. In the last it was a total shock when Tegan Lee won easily at 25/1 after a string of poor efforts. Our selections managed second and third with I Can Run Can You and Alrafid chasing home the winner. I do hope Tootie Too is ok this morning as she took a heavy fall and was then knocked over - she appeared ok though.
So, another lovely fixture at Fontwell and I hope to be back on the 5th September to do the Tour and Tipping again! If you ever get a chance come along to the only figure of 8 chase track in the UK - you'll have a great experience.
Thanks again to Chris Copsey and to Mandy Austen who ensures The Chancellor gets as much coverage as possible! Onwards and upwards still....
