Well it took a fair bit of planning but it was over like a flash!
The whole experience of organising and then executing your own Raceday is just fantastic. It had been my five year plan when we launched back in October 2009 to have sponsored one race - by the end of play on the 27th January 2012 we'd sponsored 19. Ticket and hopsitality sales were much higher than our first raceday in 2011 and more Club members came to enjoy the experience (and from the feedback they really enjoyed the experience!). I was proud to see Racing Welfare in attendance, sponsoring a race and collecting for this utterly worthwhile charity (even my Auntie helped with the collecting as volunteers were thin in the ground). Every single winning owner or representative loved the idea of keeping the gorgeous trophies provided by trophystore.co.uk. Post Racing and Racing Xpert took out advertisements in the Racecard and Javi, our talented designer, produced an absolutely stunning front cover to the racecard.
FormChecker nailed some really nice winners that I had highlighted in the pre-race Tipping Forum (Master D'Or at 12/1 and Orvita ar 10/1). As always I was proud to talk to the public about the races of that day with Tim Peters the Raceday Presenter and my chosen commentator, Lee McKenzie. Tim has been such a great supporter since I started at Fontwell Park and Lee wrote the Foreword to our Juvenile Hurdle Project eBook. He has been an immense supporter of Chancellor of the FormChecker since we worked together at Fontwell and he did say this of me on Raceday '...Craig is one of the most innovative thinkers in racing at the moment...' - wow, thanks Lee - I just do what I love doing for Chancellor of the FormChecker but to get such support is amazing. Mandy Austen is just amazing - we have worked together now since November 2009 when I sponsored my very first race and she was assigned to look after me! Simply put, if it was not for her I would not be at Fontwell Park today and none of this would have happened. And also I would not be doing it without my Club Members who turned up for the Raceday too (and follow me all year) - if none of you supported Chancellor of the FormChecker then Chancellor of the FormChecker would simply not exist. Finally, my friends and family mean the World to me and they were there to be together on this Raceday - how proud was I?
All of the owners and representatives were lovely when they came to collect their trophies - these included Paul Nicholls' rep when Sir Du Bearn won - it was the lady who rides out Kauto Star three times per week!! How brilliant was it to meet her (she also used to ride out Big Buck's!) - and also the owner of Goring Two who was so happy to have won and absolutely adores the horse (called 'Neddy' at home). It was also a great pleasure to be awarding the third placed prize in the Chancellor of the FormChecker Champion Jockey of Fontwell 2011 to Leighton Aspell (his charity donation was to the IJF).
So, how do you utilise the information provided by The Chancellor? Do you have any systems in place that work (or even don't work) to help out other Club Members? Post below to share you thoughts!
Well Wednesday night at Kempton has been and passed and no big priced winners for the Gargantuan.
I hit a few winners (short prices, but a win is a win it brings a grin) and then a couple of places as well. One of them being Unlimited who came a close second at 14/1 (I had him down to win aarrggh ).
We have a few meetings coming up starting tonight at Wolves. Wolverhampton is becoming a tough place for Gargantuan consistency.
Let’s hope I can sift this tonight.
My Big fancies are in Capitals in the below selections.
Well the Gargantuan had a middle of the road Tuesday at Southwell and also my horse ran a middle of the road race at Catterick.
But the good news about that is he gets to go to Wolves next month in a claimer so hopefully the Gargantuan All Weather Tipping service may have an All Weather winner under his belt ( now that will be one hell of a day )
Both of my big fancies did the business. Captain Dunne flew home under a great ride (I had a nice bet on hope you guys did ) and then Dispol Diva also bundled home in 3rd place at a nice 20/1.
Onto today and it's wednesday which means only one thing: racing at Kempton (oh and a nice few beverages).
I've finally calmed down enough from another spectacular day at Fontwell to blog. As per usual, being there was just simply amazing again - I cannot believe that I do the Tipping Forum there every meeting; it is still as exciting as ever. So, thank you Mandy Austen for always making everything happen and for being a 100% supporter of The Chancellor. A massive thank you as ever goes to Tim Peters, the Raceday Presenter who is just brilliant to work with and also a super supporter of The Chancellor. A thank you also has to go out to Lee McKenzie who I did the Forum for the first time with on Saturday in the nasty rain and we did fantastically well (and thank you for the kind words afterwards about what we do - really made my day!).
Once the racing started you just knew it was going to be one of those days where close finishes, dramatic races and Chancellor tips were gonna do well!!! In the first, a Juvenile Hurdle, there is never much form to go off so FormChecker is very hit and miss (only four of the field had run over hurdles before). Literally Saturday morning as I was finishing off FormChecker and Ratings for all the other races I thought of looking at the type of horse that had won Juvenile Hurdles in the past around Fontwell on softer ground. Well, quickly it unearthed that horses with some speed but also some stamina win these races (some of you may have seen Sheena West's Whipperway win very nicely at the previous Fontwell meeting and she fitted the profile). So, looking at the race only Big Talk, Kalamill, Zakeeta and Claimant fitted the profile. I never looked at any projected SPs a t all for this race so as me and Graham went to see Big Jim to put our bets my jaw dropped when Zakeeta was 12/1, Claimant 33/1 and Big Talk 125/1. I had to bet on all three which I did. Claimant was withdrawn on vet's advice and with Zakeeta and the game Big Talk (always been pushing the pace the entire race) were still in contention with Kalamill. Zakeeta ground it out well, Kalamill was a danger in second and Big Talk did finish third. I do apologise for whoever was stood near me and Graham in the stands as we were being extremely shouty as everything fell into place from the home turn. Zakeeta won at 20/1 with Kalamill second (7/4) and Big Talk third (80/1).
The rest of the meeting went well and we had acouple more winners and virutally every second place including Marodima on a good day. It was great to see Isntshelovely get win on ground she loves but, apart from the first race, the highlight for me was Jodi Mogford's spectacular ride on The Good Guy (during tipping Isaid this horseis good and I would watch todayt o make sure he handles the ground - well he did more than that!!). Jodi took it up from the start and was never headed and it was just soooo fantastic to be there to witness it first hand. If you use At The Races online, login and watch the replay. It is definitely in my top three best rides ever at Fontwell alongside Gemma Gracey-Davison making all on Spider Boy and Richie McLernon winning on Saphir Des Bois (as motionless as ever heading over the final ditch)....
A quick thanks also to Ben Aitken for introducing me to Dosage analyses for breeding (visit his website http://www.narrowing-the-field.com/) - well worht a visit.
Finally, come and join myself and Gargantuan on Friday January 28th 2011 for the Chancellor of the FormChecker Raceday at Fontwell where we will be sponsoring the entire card!! Wow!
Well after a few crazy days the Gargantuan is back and ready to take it back to the sand.
I'm sorry for my followers for the couple of meetings I've missed over the weekend at wolverhampton.
I've been a busy guy family wedding playing rugby etc etc but i've had my eye on the all weather racing and I'll be back to myself today at southwell.
I'll also be having one eye on the racing at catterick as one of my 2yr olds ( Red Gold + Green - wish you all the best for this one - The Chancellor) is trying to shift his maiden tag in the 3.30 and were hoping that he can come close to getting of the mark.
We're at Southwell today and I'm looking at having a good day.
Please see the below selections my main fancies are in capitals. My main win fancy will be Captain Dunne and I'll be having a nice bet on him myself.
After a less than average night on Saturday Kempton was a welcome sight on Monday as over recent weeks I’ve had Kempton by the short and curly’s .
Unfortunately this timeat Kempton was a whole different ball game. It’s the first time in a long time that Ididn’t hit a winner allday I had a few seconds but no wins.
Gutted was not the word, I was watching the livecommentary on the Racing Post website while at work on Monday. Thecommentary was playing upstopping and starting and then when it did get going to see only a few of myhorses in contention on the final turn really hacked me of (the laptop got a lucky escapeit nearly took a nosedive from the fourth floor).
On with today and wereback toKempton tonight. I love Wednesdaynights atKempton as I’m out in my local watering hole on a Wednesday and all the lads use my selections to earn extra beer money. So the better night I have with the selections the cheaper my night gets (Happy Days)
Friday 28th January 2011 is the day I've been aiming at! Admittedly I did not think I would do it so early in my tipster career but yes, I'll be sponsoring the entire racecard (all seven races!!). Four races will be Chancellor-named, two for Gargantuan AW tipping and one I am co-sponsoring with the brilliant and friendly bookie, Big Jim. I'll keep you regularly updated on the blog about what will be happening on the Day and how planning is going. There will be some nice things happening on during the meeting including winning Chancellor goodies!
Just book that day off work and get down to Fontwell Par kfor a day you'll never forget!!
I knew it wasn't far away. It's a shame that all good things have to come to an end.
A pretty shambolic night at Wolves. There were plenty of big priced winners and I didn't latch onto any of them very strange (one of those nights).
I'm hoping to pull this back at Kempton today. Kempton has been a happy stomping ground over recents weeks and I've got a nice couple of selections for you guys to get some of your hard earned back.
Busy week at Kempton this week on the sand Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and then we have a double header on the Friday at Wolves and Lingfield so there's plenty to go at this week.
Lets hope we have another great week. If I get half the winners I did last week I take that and run.
On another note Listening to ATR on sunday (This is the sad life I lead haha) and Matt Chapman was chuntering on about the Racing for Change situation saying that nothing radical has changed to intice the punters to the race courses apart from putting on bands after a meeting and changing the big races to the weekend the Ebor etc. I have to agree with him as an all weather meeting at Kempton on a Monday afternoon really doesn't get peoples juice's going unless you're a hardened punter like myself, but when he was asked what would he do as a radical change he didnt have a clue (Haha) this leads me to believe it's going to have to be one hell of an idea from the guys from the BHA. Have they got the minerals only time will tell?
Hope you guys enjoy todays selections and have a good weeks betting,
GARGANTUAN Friday night, and we're onto Saturday ................
Well it's going up like a straw house on fire.
Wolves has proven to be tricky, but I'm on the way to sorting that right out (check out last nights results haha)
I must be currently the most inform tipster this side of the waters (he says), and if anyone is in doubt bring your case forward haha. I see the Pricewise etc etc tipping horse's left right and centre and not even getting a place. I'm here just giving you tips for each race on the sand and just hitting the jackpot about every time.
I hate been smug and arrogant, it's a bad image but if it's got to be done then it's got to be done (I like it really).
I won't bore you with the details of the results this time round as it gets boring explaining how well you have done all the time (smug son of a gun haha)
We're back at Wolves again tonight and I'm hoping my smugness doesn't come to an end kiss of death). I need a pants night to put my feet back on the ground but hopefully it won't be tonight.
GARGANTUAN has the all weather under his thumb..........
Well another night on the sand = another Gargantuan good time (roll up people Bookie Bashing in session).
Again some great priced winners at Wolves which is exactly what I set out to do all those 2 months ago haha.
I got off to a real Regi Blinker ( stinker ), and again was shy in the first race but then brought it straight back to form in the second race hitting a great straight forecast 8/13 fav and then a 22/1 second to go with it brings a nice tidy return.
Once again Dicky Hughes was on fine form getting himself even closer to Paul Hanagan for the jockey's title by bagging a hattrick of wins also netting the Gargantuan a nice 10/1 winner in the process (Pose). So over all I hit four winners 8/13, 9/2, 10/1 and 7/1, I also hit a couple of places as well including a 22/1 second.
I'm really getting stuck into those big priced winners at the moment as you guys can see from my results. This will carry on into the season and I'm 99% positive when the season starts there will be even more frequent (two big priced winners a meeting instead of just one lol)
The Gargantuan has got some great deals for the start of the All Weather season check out the deals in the shop on the website to avoid dissapointment.
It really does pay to follow the Gargantuan on his winter warming all weather tips (remember this is just the start, plenty more to come)
Well we're back to Wolves tonight and we're live again on ATR. Remember to join the Gargantuan and the rest of the ATR viewers in the tipping competition which is put on every Friday night (even The Chancellor might have a go!! - The Chancellor). Come and pit your wits against the Gargantuan the All Weather King.
Good luck to everyone tonight and hope you have a cracking weekend.
GARGANTUAN delivers the goods first class ...................
Big priced winners for all Gargantuan followers.
Well once again I'm writing the blog with a huge smug smile on my face.
In fact I'm struggling to write the blog, I don't even think the massive amount of bigging myself up will do tonight's results any justice.
It was just another one of those Gargantuan nights, In the first race my selection comes in at 20/1 early price. In the next two races Dicky Hughes came up trumps for me bagging himself a nice double and in the process bagging the Gargantuan a double. So that's 3 winners from 3 and I'm cruising then my big win fancy doesn't even hit a place but my place horse comes second and maybe should have won and got Dicky Hughes a hattrick just didn't have it in him.
Then in the fifth Josr's Magic runs another blinder at Kempton coming home in first place and then my big each way fancy comes home in first place in the sixth race at 14/1 early price (that's two double figured priced winners if you didn't get that haha).
By this time I'm thinking something has to go wrong, well it sort of went wrong I had second place at 10/1 in the next and then in the last I got the places the wrong way round but it was a nice reverse forecast getting first and second.
Another great night at Kempton and I'm looking to take this form into Thursday and Friday night at Wolverhampton.
I've had plenty of winners at Wolves but only a few big priced winners. I'm hoping to change this by the end of the week and to get myself up that tipping leaderboard on Friday night at Wolverhampton on ATR (keep your eyes and ears peeled for the Gargantuan).
Once again I hope you guys are loving what the Gargantuan is doing (spread the word there's a new tipster on the block people)
Just remember where you saw the Gargantuan first guys; I'll be on ATR or Racing UK before you know it haha
Well that tone deaf, grey, boring Irish guy didn’t like Mondays but I reckon if he had followed the Gargantuan on his travels he would vow never to play that song again after the Monday Mr G has just had.
I did mention something about been ready to lift everybody’s Monday blues and I certainly must have done that. What a cracking start to the week.
Over the recent months Kempton has become a happy hunting ground for the Gargantuan and Monday afternoon was no exception.
The day got off to a belter with my big fancy Zing Wing putting the race to bed 2 furlongs out and then Magical Flower staying on into third and then a straight forecast in the second race.
Then out came the biggy in the third race of the day.
Very few of Brian Meehan’s 2yr olds are raced early on in the season he normally starts hitting form with them about Ascot time and then after. Aciano had steady form and with Brian’s 2yr olds recently in top order 16/1 was a price worth having.
I read on the racing post website just before the race that Brian had commented, this is the type of race for Aciano and he should win. Well he wasn’t wrong causing a big upset at a cracking price (this certainly lifted my Monday feeling) I wonder if it lifted Mr Geldofs haha.
So by the end of the afternoon I’d tipped 5 winners in the first 5 races (did I mention I tipped a 16/1 winner - certainly worthy of another mention methinks - The Chancellor) and also a few places for good measure which made it an enjoyable day all round.
There’s some cracking All Weather action to follow this week and I’m sure I can carry on the form into tomorrow night’s card at Kempton. Also don’t miss out the All Weather tipping competition on Friday night on ATR. I’ll be putting my selections in the mixing bowl you should also have a crack yourselves and pit your wit’s against the All Weather king.
My big fancies are in capitals in the below selections for Kempton tonight.
I hope you guys and gals have another good days betting, (you will do if you're following the Gargantuan).
The Chancellor's enforced layoff of 10 days (well, there was the Kerry National to keep me amused which we duly picked out the 1-2-4) came to an end yesterday with Plumpton and Uttoxeter. Not a bad day's efforts with seven winners across the cards but none of the big-priced winners which was frustrating.
However, Adjust the Form Ratings had a stormer of a day! The Chancellor has committed himself to rating every single Class 3 jumps event in the UK for the 2010-2011 season for FREE and always available to download from our home page. I do hope you were on Alph (how much do I love that horse?) who was top-rated and finised second at 25/1 and then Jimbatai who was top-rated in the Uttoxeter race and also finished second at 8/1 (I got 10s in the morning). For those of you who got the ratings for Cheltenham 2010 you know the power of the Adjust the Form Ratings + and j signs. The + is given to horses that are improving and Herschel and Frosted Grape had one yesterday (they both won). The j symbol for recently dodgy jumpers went to Ajman, Radetsky March, Ragador and Sporting Rebel. Only the latter did anything finishing third (and why I put up Radetsky March knowing he had a j is beyond me - my mind was not fully functioning yesterday!!). All Class1 and Class2 races will be exclusively for the 40@40 club which can just about squeeze in a few more people so go to the shop and purchase if you want everything I do for the entire 2010-2011 season!
Remember that all of my profits go back into racing via sponsorship and I am now in a position to begin looking for part-owning horses which is just too exciting for words. Hopefully soon I'll be able to reveal future plans I have at Fontwell - I am back there on Thursday to discuss a few things :)
A side note - I never really get hooked on any TV to be honest (except the racing of course) but my passion for music and new talent made me watch Must Be The Music - the entire concept was ace and I wish immense success to the Top 3 in the show: Emma's Imagination, Missing Andy and The Pictures - to get up and Wembley and do what they did was truly amazing yesterday. I'm all for supporting new talent hence my 110% backing of Gargantuan AllWeather Tipping who is brilliant. I hope you are too!
Right, Stratford tomorrow - now a 2* track so might just be worth sitting back and watching......
GARGANTUAN good time on a Saturday night...............
So after a hard slog on the rugby field with no reward it was nice to get home in front of the box to shout a few winning nags home while feeding my face with ale and quick food.
Once again I started the night shy not even a place in the first race (this is gona have to change) and then the fav I tipped in the next finished second (so annoying).
Then in the next race Danzoe got a bit excited (it's true what they say last in first out). Unfortunately Danzoe went a bit too early and bust the stalls haha so he became a non runner but my main each way fancy did place in that race.
In the next 3 races I had 5 selections win/placed out of 6 selections hitting 2 forecasts in the process.
Then onto Snow Magic who came home in front from a great ride from Pat Cosgrove. With it being a James Fanshawe horse and with it being it's first time in handicap company as soon as I saw the opening price I got tucked in (hope you guys did as well).
So not a bad Saturday night in, and also it wasn't a bad days racing for the Gargantuan on Sunday either but I won't bore you with the details.
So we have great start to the week with an All Weather meeting at Kempton Park (you can't get a better start to the week surely).
Hope you guys follow the selections, cash in and let the Gargantuan lift the Monday blues haha.
GARGANTUAN misses Wolves through technical hitch......
First of all I would like to apologise to the Gargantuan's followers for missing Friday night at Wolves. I'm now back up and running and have the internet back which has cheered our lass up no end (not haha).
The previous night wasn't the greatest night at Wolves. One 6/1 winner and then about six places, my place selection placed a 33/1 which was a nice touch. My win selection finished 3rd how a horse can go to Meydan and finish 2nd in a race worth 42k and then go to Wolves on a Thursday night and come 3rd in a race like that is beyond me (bloody nags) even my place selection in that race finished in front of it haha (you have to laugh otherwise you'd cry).
It's been a bad week for the Gargantuan with the internet dying and the PC blowing up, and then my big fancy I thought that would earn my followers and nice wedge on Wednesday coming second by a head, and then a sub standard selections at Wolves, I finally had something to cheer me up on Friday. My horse Sinadiou raced up at Ayr in the first race and came a cracking 2nd at 10/1 only getting beat by an 80k horse on debut so I was really chuffed considering ours only cost 3k. Then in the race after I heard a whisper for the Fahey horse at evens so I doubled my Sinadiou winnings finally the rub of the green comes the Gargantuans way (happy days + long may it continue).
Back to Wolves tonight guys and gals. I'm looking for a good night's betting as I am having a Saturday night in with ATR on the box a six pack and some quick food.
Aren't sure if any of you guys watch ATR (attheraces). I suspect some of you do, anyhow on a Friday night they do a tipping competion at Wolverhampton so I've decided with it been the all weather I will sign myself up for it. So if you see the Gargantuans name been brandished around attheraces on a Friday night topping their tipping comp it will most certainly be me (you'll make an instant impact Gargantuan sp c'mon! - The Chancellor)
Hope you all have a cracking weekend and enjoy the selections for Saturday night.
Happy punting people and just remember a win's a win it brings a grin.
Well what can I say; gutted is the word of the day. Afterhaving a good night with my other selections grabbing a few winners a few good priced placesI was looking forward to the finale at Kempton.
AfterSophie Doyle getting out well from the wide drawshe tucked in Army of Stars just behind the front runner. Once she hit the two furlong marker she got to work and went out just in front. About 200 yds out she went to change hands with the whip and got tangled with the reins and lost the lead just about on the line (to say I exploded with abarrage ofexpletives is a understatement).
The only positive from this is thatI had tipped it to all the lads in my local and they had all backed it each way so I at least doubled there money for them so theyKept me replenished with dizzy waters all night. (every cloud hey)
The otherselection that I thought would win was the Hannon horsePausaniasin a three runner race. I thought evens was a great price. I was down atGoodwood when this horse won on debutas it beat my horse. It was quite impressive that day beating a fairly strong field. I thought Dicky Hughesreally did make hard work of it and inthe end dead heated with theGodolphin horse.(cash back)
On with today people and there’s a nice little card in the Midlands for us to get our teeth into.My big fancy of the day there goes to Beachamp Viceroy. He really should win going away but it’s racing so I’m not holding my breath haha.
Well it all started Monday night when been halfway through checking the first race at Lingfield, the PC decides to go up in smoke leaving me with no internet access what so ever (purely belting).
I managed to get my selections together with a bit of manual labour via the racing post and then sent them over to The Chancellor late Tuesday morning (I’ve always said failing to prepare is preparing to fail) and I’m still sticking by this and you can see why via my results for the day. (efforts must be doubled)
But my friends we shall not dwell on past results, and we can move onward and upward and I’m pretty confident I’ll be having a good day today at Kempton. I have a corker for you in the last race at Kempton ARMY OF STARS.
I will be putting this down as my big win fancy, but I’m hoping it will be a nice big price for us. It’s won me some nice tidy sums in the past and I’m hopeful it can do the same tonight.
Hope you guys have a good nights betting, Once the season starts we will be at Kempton just about most Wednesday evenings so get comfy people.
